Is Mikhail Gorbachev The Antichrist?
Could it be? Could it be that Mikhail Gorbachev is The Antichrist? Many have mentioned that "mark" on his forehead. The Bible does say in Revelation that the Antichrist will require everyone to "receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand." (Revelation 14:9) Is that mark "His Mark"?
Also, Gorbachev is from Russia. Russia does seem to play an important role in the future from the perspective of Bible prophecy. Russia is called "Gog, the land of Magog" in the Bible. (Exodus 38:2)
The Bible does have a lot to say about Gog and about the Great Tribulation period of trouble that will come upon the Earth. For example, the Bible makes this prophesy concerning Russia:
"And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes." (Ezekiel 38:16)
Note that the very words, "it shall be in the latter days", are used here. Also, this prophesy has not yet been fulfilled, so it must therefore be for a future time - for the time after the Antichrist is revealed. Will this former leader of Russia, Mikhail Gorbachev, one day also become The Antichrist?
One thing is certain: Mikhail Gorbachev already knows how to rule a large empire with both cunning and ruthlessness. After all, he was the leader of the most powerful military in the world, the Soviet Union, which was described by late President Reagan as an "evil empire". Mikhail Gorbachev would therefore not require much time or effort to learn how to subdue and control a large number of other countries.
Another point that should be mentioned is that the Soviet Union, as it once was, stood strongly and squarely against God. Atheism was the "state religion" of the Former Soviet Union. Because of its hatred of God, Christianity was crushed ruthlessly by the Soviet Union. Millions of Christians were murdered, tortured, or otherwise persecuted by the Soviet Union. Mikhail Gorbachev ran this "anti-Christian" empire. Could Mikhail Gorbachev once again lead an empire against God and against His Christ, this time as the "Anti-Christ"?
Finally, there is the question of the Jews. The Bible clearly says that the Antichrist will one day persecute the Jews, trying to exterminate them, much as Hitler once tried to do. Although the Soviet Union never tried to exterminate the Jews as a people, anti-Semitism has always been quite prevalent throughout the entire history of the Soviet Union.
For example, Jews were often forbidden to emigrate. Their rights were often restricted as well. Many were killed or otherwise persecuted over the years by the USSR. (This was one of the Soviet Union's "dirty secrets".) Is Mikhail Gorbachev anti-Semitic? Will he one day try to finish what Hitler started to do -- to exterminate the Jews? Is Mikhail Gorbachev the Antichrist?
Mikhail Gorbachev is now getting quite old. If he dies, this means that he obviously was not "the one" prophesied in the Bible to be the Antichrist. Therefore, if Mikhail Gorbachev is the Antichrist, he will have to reveal himself to be so rather quickly. His former enemy, Ronald Reagan, is already dead. Most of those from his era are now dead as well.
The Antichrist, (Anti-Christ), will come on the scene, as prophesied by the Bible in the Book of Revelation. Is Mikhail Gorbachev the Antichrist? Many have theorized that the number "666" being the number of the Antichrist means that the Antichrist will have first, middle, and last names with 6 letters in them. If this is true, then Mikhail Gorbachev is not the Antichrist.
Still, it is not possible to know if he is the actual Antichrist until he does one particularly wicked act. This act would then reveal Gorbachev as the Antichrist. This act will be when the Antichrist enters into the rebuilt Temple in Jerusalem and then pollutes it:
"And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate." (Daniel 9:27)
"And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate." (Daniel 11:31)
This act was called by Jesus, "the abomination of desolation". Jesus declared that this act would become the start of what is often referred to as the "Great Tribulation":
"When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) Then let them which be in Judea flee into the mountains: Let him which is on the house top not come down to take any thing out of his house: Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes. And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day: For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened." (Matthew 24:15-22)
This day when the Antichrist enters into the Temple in Jerusalem will be proceeded by a period of time of great deception and a falling away from the truth, a time referred to as the "Great Apostasy". This will be a period of time when the world's religious leaders, (even including some "Fundamentalist" and "Baptist" ones), will start to dialogue with each other and to link up together into a great Ecumenical Movement, as they move back towards the Roman Catholic Church, (also referred to as the "Great Whore" in Revelation 17:1). We believe that the Roman Catholic Church, under the protection of the Antichrist, will then start to shed the blood of true Christians, (mostly by beheading), in a manner similar to how many Muslims now behead Christians, Jews, and others in various parts of the world in obedience to the Koran. (Koran: "Strike off their heads till ye have made a great slaughter among them" - Sura 47:4)
"So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration. And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns. The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is. And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth." (Revelation 17: 3-9)
Although many New Evangelicals and others are now willing to join together with the Roman Catholic Church, these same men and women will have their heads removed from off their shoulders at that time by the Antichrist and by this Great Roman Catholic Whore. Other lost so-called Christians will be "Left Behind" on the Earth after the Rapture of Christians into Heaven, and will then take the "Mark of The Beast", thereby giving themselves over to eternal judgment and damnation in the flames of Hell.
Is Mikhail Gorbachev the Antichrist? We will only know if he one day enters into the Temple in Jerusalem and then pollutes it, as prophesied by Daniel the Prophet. Please keep in mind, though, that this Temple in Jerusalem has not even been rebuilt yet, so such an act would obviously have to happen some time in the future. There are billions of people living in the world today. Is Mikhail Gorbachev the one who might actually become the Antichrist? We just cannot know for sure who the Antichrist is at this time.
